Catalyzing Restoration and Flood Alleviation in Calumet for Birds and People

Audubon Great Lakes

Audubon Great Lakes is building upon existing work in Calumet to deepen engagement with communities and partners through a variety of engagement, research, and restoration activities across the region. This project will launch a new restoration project at Powderhorn Lake and an effort to document and communicate flood alleviation in the Hegewisch. Expansion of the Marsh Bird Monitoring Data Hub and enhancing communications with land managers will also help to effectively guide wetland restoration to support marsh bird populations. Collectively, these efforts will demonstrate that Powderhorn Lake and other coastal wetland restorations can be viable models for how to effectively implement nature-based solutions that measurably improve community members’ lives while conserving biodiversity.
