South and West Side Health and Nature
The Nature Conservancy in Illinois (TNC)
Through two projects, TNC aims to create a model for engaging neighbors and co-creating projects that help people and nature thrive. In Marshall Square, TNC is working as part of the Marshall Square Resource Network Health Committee in partnership with Latinos Progresando to advance a community vision for the California Avenue Corridor. On the South Side, TNC is supporting the Imani Green Health Advocates program by implementing the Treesilience program, and a TNC community tree health project.

Families participate in artmaking and storytelling about the relationships between people, health, nature and air quality through workshops hosted by OPEN Center for the Arts at the Lawndale Peace Picnic. This is part of a wider effort led by Latinos Progresando and The Nature Conservancy to explore environmental and health topics and develop solutions to challenges in collaboration with community members.

“Step Out” murals from North and South Lawndale artists depict the relationships between people, health, nature and air quality. The murals were on display outside of OPEN Center for the Arts, and will soon be permanently moved to a community green space. This is part of a wider effort led by Latinos Progresando and The Nature Conservancy to explore environmental and health topics and develop solutions to challenges in collaboration with community members.
